An Easy Mocktail Recipe Inspired by Disney’s Moana

Since my family watches Moana on the regular, I thought it would be the perfect time to share this Moana inspired mocktail recipe.

If I’m being honest, this recipe didn’t turn out anything like I’d originally planned, but I like to think it turned out better.

Originally I’d planned to create a mocktail that was actually inspired by Moana herself with a little red puree and yellow, to match the colors of the movie. That didn’t work, so I decided to go with blue instead of yellow.

Did you know when you add one drop of blue food coloring to a mixture of pineapple juice + coconut water you end up with a dark green/teal colored drink instead of ocean blue? Yep. So the drink itself stayed the same but the colors changed along the way.

There’s more to it than just a great movie, so many awesome lessons to be learned from the Moana lyrics! We’ve been listening to the Moana soundtrack regularly since we saw the movie!

Mocktail Recipe Inspiration

Anyway, Te Fiti has her heart stolen from inside of her by Maui and turns into the lava monster, Te Ka. The entire plot line of Moana is based on Moana returning the heart to Te Fiti and at the end of the movie, Moana returns the heart and the lava monster turns back into Te Fiti, the beautiful living mother island. Te Ka is red and Te Fiti is green, and I combined the two in this strawberry lava meets tropical island mocktail.
